It All Started with Crunch

by @MavroTrainer

I first got into Pokemon because of my best friend in elementary school. My group of friends would talk non-stop about Pokemon while I was left without a clue as to why I was being ignored. Then I saw my friend playing Platinum version on a bus ride and he let me try it out. He had a Luxray battling a Magneton. I was told to pick any move I choose to try to defeat it. I chose Crunch and defeated my first Pokemon encounter.

After that experience I decided to buy a DS and a copy of Platinum version. I chose Turtwig as my starter and caught Rotom with the help of my friend. I was addicted to the game until I was defeated by a pair of trainers just before Veilstone City. Until that Route my Rotom was extremely under-leveled. I thought my Pokemon were too weak and didn't understand typings. By the time I challenged them again I had 10 levels on them. I swept them easily. It felt good to finally earn my way into Veilstone City!

I also had trouble finding the door at Valor Lakefront to proceed, defeating Candice (and figuring out her puzzle), and navigating Mt.Coronet. It was difficult with only 2 trained Pokemon and no experience but I persevered to finally beat the game! Then I moved onto the frustrating but amazing HeartGold and SoulSilver, the fresh addition of Black and White, the ingenious continuation of Unova: Black 2 and White 2, eventually the revolutionary X and Y, then the gen 3 remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Somewhere along the line I also went back to play LeafGreen.

I was surprised to learn that there were a lot of the same items and rules but I really enjoyed it! The amount of work put into making these Pokemon, routes, cities, characters, battling mechanics, plot, ect amazes me. This kind of turned into a story as well but I can relate to how Yellow and Blue feel about Pokemon. It's something that doesn't cease to amaze me. I can't wait for more!
