Battle of the Generations Tournament Announcement

With the booming success of the Kanto Cast Legendless Competition we've decided to host ANOTHER tournament! This one is going to be different though. A format you've likely not encountered before. Here's the breakdown:

The format will be Best of 3 Battle Spot Doubles, VGC 15, with the exception of a few things. If you'd like a complete list of Battle Spot Doubles rules you can find them HERE!

The exceptions are:

When team building you may only use 1 Pokemon per generation of games it debuted in. You must build your team of 6 by using 1 Pokemon per generation. Mega stones count as an item and therefore your mega Pokemon are representative of the generation before mega evolving. Here's an example of a team- Mega Charizard Y, Scizor, Salamence, Mamoswine, Amoonguss, Aegislash. If you're wondering which Pokemon are considered from what generation, Bulbapedia has a nicely laid out list HERE!

We'll also be banning legendaries (and mythicals) of any kind again. I think that was pretty well received last time and given we can only choose 1 Pokemon per generation to use, legendaries are an obvious pick. So let's just avoid that, eh?  This includes all and any forms of the following Pokemon: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Azelf, Mesprit, Uxie, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Cresselia, Darkrai, Manaphy, Phione, Shaymin, Arceus, Heatran, Regigigas, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Diancie, Hoopa, Volcanion, Magearna, Floette-Eternal. (If I've forgotten any, please don't take advantage of that... You Pokemon Masters all know which Pokemon are legendary and mythic.)

The moves Minimize, Double Team, Flash, Kinesis, Sand Attack, Smokescreen, Dark Void, Confuse Ray, Teeter Dance, Sweet Kiss, Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill and Sheer Cold are banned as well... For obvious reasons. However, moves like Flatter and Swagger will be allowed as they allow an opportunity for boosted attack punishment alongside the potential self-hitting. A possible balance to however the coin flips, essentially.

And just for reference, no same two items may be used on a team. That's a basic VGC rule, but I just wanted to clarify and highlight that rule again.

The competition will take place on Pokemon Showdown! again just because it's a lot easier to teambuild and battle. Link HERE! If you want to make a team you're sure is legal (minus the banned Pokemon and moves for this competition) simply select the "Battle Spot Doubles" format when team building HERE!

The battles will be Best of 3, Double Elimination and tracked on Challonge. This is the same tournament tracker we used last time, so if you participated in the Legendless Competition you already have an account! You can find the tournament page HERE! You will need to make an account, but don't worry, it's free and stupid easy.

The competition begins on Monday September 12, 2016 at 10 am EST. Once you sign up you will need to "check in" before the start time, but you can do so up to 2 days before the competition begins.

Once the tournament starts you will have up to 3 days to connect with your opponent and play your matches to determine who advances. Participants may continue to play through their matches so long as their opponent is ready and available, but please keep in mind we're trying to accommodate everyone, including those with busy lives while dealing with different time zones.

Submit your team for legal verification by copying a pastebin of your Showdown! team and sending it HERE! This is required, so please make sure your team is competition legal as any team not adhering to the rules and ban lists will be disqualified. You may also not make adjustments to your team once the competition has begun so make sure you're completely satisfied with it before battles begin!

I hope you enjoy playing in this unique competition! After all, this format doesn't hold much water after Gen 7 comes around. Because there are currently 6 Gens. and you have a team of 6. It just works out nicely, you understand what I'm saying. Happy team building!
