Pokemon VGC 2017 Format
We recently got some specifics about the upcoming VGC '17 format. Here is what we know:
- All battles will be played with Pokemon Sun or Moon
- Double Battles
- Alola Regional Pokedex only
- Z-Crystals allowed
- Mega Stones not allowed
- Some Legendary and Mythical Pokemon banned, including Solgaleo, Lunala and Magearna
- 10 minute player time system
One of the seemingly insignificant changes to the format is the new time system, which is used to control the length of each battle. Similar to the current system, each player will only have a total of 10 total minutes to choose their moves within a game. This new time system significantly reduces the amount of time each player has to choose their moves and the duration of each battle. So pick your moves wisely and quickly before the clock runs out!
The format launches in November of 2016 with the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon on November 18th. Looking to practice the new format? Access the "Championship Battle" format on Pokemon Global Link starts on November 18th with the launch of the new games. Looking to go to a PlayPokemon event with your Alola team? The new format take affect at PCs, Regionals and other official Pokemon events on December 1st, 2016.
